Horizon Europe Ireland - June update

Pictured at Enterprise Ireland's Dublin office, Michiel Scheffer, President of the Board of the EIC (front row, second from left) with Enterprise Ireland staff and client companies including CroíValve, Equal1Labs, BlueDrop Medical, Akara Robotics and Loci Orthopedics. Representatives from Elkstone Ventures, Atlantic Bridge, Furthr VC, Western Development Commission (WDC) and HBAN were also in attendance.

President of the Board of the EIC
The official appointment of Michiel Scheffer as President of the Board of the European Innovation Council (EIC) took place earlier this month – we were delighted to meet him at Enterprise Ireland's office in Dublin on his recent visit to Ireland. We were joined by a number of representative deeptech companies and investors from the Irish ecosystem who have benefited from the support of the EIC Accelerator programme. This was a mutually beneficial two-way discussion for all participants and we wish Michiel all the best in his new role.

International Technical Expert
You may recall that last year Enterprise Ireland, UCD and the Embassy of France in Ireland signed an MoU establishing a new International Technical Expert (ETI) role to strengthen Innovation and Applied Research links between France and Ireland. Jean-Michel Portefaix recently commenced as the new ETI based at NovaUCD and the Horizon Europe National Support Network looks forward to working closely with him on strategic priorities for both countries in the coming years.

Horizon Europe awardees
Good news for CorkBIC which is part of a €20m EIC-funded Horizon Europe project consortium that will support the Ukrainian startup community with cascade funding and business support services. Positive news too for Dublin City University and Dundalk Institute of Technology who were among the awardees for two of 16 consortia selected under this year's EIT HEI initiative which aims to boost knowledge in deeptech. The European Commission has also approved up to €8.1 billion of public support by 14 Member States, including Ireland, for an Important Project of Common European Interest in microelectronics and communication technologies - you can read more about the project here.

In 2022, Enterprise Ireland approved more than 270 applications for Horizon Europe proposal preparation grants. Of those, just 11 were Travel grants, due to the impacts of the pandemic on overseas travel.

With the return of travel, requests for travel support have increased. To help speed up the processing of these applications, here are some tips for getting your application right first time.
