Horizon Europe Ireland - October update

Forty years of research and innovation
The European Commission is celebrating its four decades of research and innovation funding activity which began in 1984 with a framework programme worth €3.8 billion. The "40 stories, 40 years" campaign is showcasing 40 case studies to highlight the impact of R&I funding and they would like to hear about more ways in which projects have made a difference - find out more here.  
Gerard Kennedy retirement
We bid a fond farewell to our colleague Gerard Kennedy who retired last month from Enterprise Ireland. Gerard held a number of roles within our Network team including National Contact Point (NCP) for Horizon Europe Cluster 4 - Digital, NCP and Delegate for the Joint Research Centre (JRC) and National Representative for the Smart Networks and Services (SNS) Joint Undertaking. Thank you Gerard for all your work and support and we wish you a happy, healthy retirement!

Clean Aviation - Horizon success story series
We've published a new case study which looks at the HECATE project funded under the Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking. The consortium of 37 partners includes key aviation players in Europe including Collins Aerospace in Cork. Horizon Europe Roadshow - Northern Ireland
Aimed at researchers and innovative businesses from all sectors, the Northern Ireland leg of the UK's Horizon Europe Roadshow is taking place on 24 October in Lisburn. Find more details here.

The first tranche of topics under the 2023/2024 Cluster 5 Energy work programme opened last month - NCP Philip Cheasty has the details including information on a related online matchmaking event. National Delegate for Cluster 1 Health, Patricia Clarke takes a big picture view of Ireland's performance in health-related EU Funding programmes while National Delegate for EIC James Walsh has details on an upcoming EIC info day taking place at Enterprise Ireland. .

Patricia Clarke, National Delegate for Horizon Europe Cluster 1 - Health, Health Research Board

The external environment has changed significantly since the Health Research Board and Enterprise Ireland began supporting Irish health researchers in collaborative European R&I initiatives.

An in-person info session to introduce the new EIC funding opportunities in the €1.2 billion programme for 2025 is being organised by the Horizon Europe team at Enterprise Ireland. Awardee companies, industry experts and EIC national representatives will provide valuable insights on the application processs.

Event details
As the world seeks to tackle global warming, the search for a cleaner way to fly is in full flight, with one EU-funded project seeking to transform air travel by developing innovative hybrid-electric aircraft technology for regional aircraft.
