With many celebrations and events to mark International Women’s Day ongoing this week, we were delighted to learn recently that two women from Ireland are among the top 10 finalists in the EU Women Innovators Prize competition which celebrates the women entrepreneurs behind Europe's ground-breaking innovations.
Congratulations to Cristina Purtill, CEO of Plio Surgical and Bàrbara Oliveira, CTO and Co-Founder of Luminate Medical, both of whom are finalists in the leadership and rising innovators categories. The winners will be revealed at the opening event for R&I Week on 18 March and we wish Cristin and Bàrbara the best of luck!

New success story: Building the networks of the
future Software Radio Systems is an Irish partner in the Horizon Europe 5G-STARTDUST project which is one of the first projects funded under the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking and aims to tackle the digital divide on internet connection. We are now midway through the seven-year Horizon Europe Framework Programme. Last year, Irish research groups and companies excelled in marine-related projects, with funding awards totalling €47.2m, up from a figure
of €27.8m in 2022.
