The 2026/2027 work program for health has a wide range of topics covering disabilities, non-communicable diseases, the impact of climate change, pandemic preparedness, the application of AI, New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), Bioprinting, virtual twins, regenerative medicine and much more.

Health Program for 2026 & 2027
The adopted work programme texts have been made available in pdf form on the Funding & Tenders Portal (under Work programme & call documents here). And the calls, topics and actions are now published and searchable on the EU Funding & Tenders Portal.

Cluster 1 Health Work Program for 2026
As per previous work programs the Cluster 1 Health programme focuses on and aims to deliver on the following six destinations matching the Strategic Plan:
  1. Staying healthy in a rapidly changing society
  2. Living and working in a health-promoting environment
  3. Tackling diseases and reducing disease burden
  4. Ensuring equal access to innovative, sustainable and high-quality health care
  5. Developing new tools, technologies and digital solutions for a healthy society
  6. Maintaining an innovative, sustainable and competitive health-related industry

Health Cluster Information Days
Join the Horizon Europe Health info day to learn more about the 2026 topics in the forthcoming Work Programme 2026-2027.  The focus will be on the topics in each of the six destinations in 2026 and will be presented by the EU Commission.

NCP4Missions’ Brokerage Event 2026

The Brokerage Event 2026 focusing on EU Missions in Horizon Europe will take place on 28-29 January 2026. This event aims to support stakeholders in forming strong consortia and preparing competitive proposals for the 2026 EU Missions calls. It is organised by NCP4Missions, the international network of National Contact Points for the five EU Missions. The event will kick off on 28 January at 10:00 a.m. CET with an online plenary session offering practical advice on how to effectively tackle the Horizon Europe 2026 calls for proposals.
Following the plenary, you will have the opportunity to schedule online bilateral meetings to present their expertise and/or project ideas and discuss potential collaborations.

Registration is mandatory to attend the brokerage event. The event focuses on following Horizon Europe – Missions and cross-cutting calls:Adaptation to Climate Change, Cancer’ Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030, 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030, A Soil Deal for Europe and Cross-cutting activities.

Other Opportunities for Health Research & Synergies

 
The EIC Work Program for 2026 has been published.  There are open calls under EIC pathfinder, transition and accelerator. The EIC work program also lays out specific health related challenges.

The Health-Related Challenges include the following
  • Biotechnology for Healthy Ageing (page 39)
  • Translating Disruptive New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) into Practice (Page 69)


Biotechnology for Healthy Ageing (details on page 39 of the EIC work program)

The Challenge will focus on advancing biotechnology for healthy ageing, promoting personalised care through molecular profiling, guiding policymakers and developers on regulatory approaches, and raising public awareness about healthy longevity.

Applicants to this Challenge will be expected to develop a proof of concept in one of the following three areas:
  1. An innovative preventative or therapeutic biotechnology-based or pharmaceutical intervention
  2. A biomarker-based tool
  3. A New Approach Methodology (NAM)

Interested applicant should review both the EIC work Program and the EIC Challenge Documents.
Requested EU contribution of up to EUR 4 million as appropriate.
Translating Disruptive New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) into Practice.

The EIC Pathfinder Challenges in 2026 also includes a specific health challenges focused on Translating Disruptive New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) into Practice. 
New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) have the potential to replace, reduce or refine animal use in the testing96 of medicinal products. This Challenge competition therefore looks to accelerate the adoption of NAMs in biomedicine and support companies that want to bring NAMs to the market. Applicants should propose innovative and disruptive NAMs addressing one or both of the following areas: 1. Preclinical biomedical research 2. Testing of medicinal products and medical technologies for safety, efficacy, or quality.

Mono beneficiary /single entities can apply.   More details available on page 69 of EIC Work ProgramProject budget is €3million. More details can be found in the EIC presentation here.  Please note that the closing date for the NAM’s EIC challenge is 26th Feb 2026.

Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) Calls for 2026
IHI call 12 - A Single-Stage, Applicant Driven Call
IHI Call 12 will be a single-stage, applicant driven call.  The aims is to fund pre-competitive Research and Innovation Actions (RIA) that contribute to addressing the IHI JU’s Specific Objectives, as defined in IHI Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA). The call contains five topics, each focusing on one of the five IHI JU Specific Objectives (SOs):
  • Topic 1 (SO1): contribute towards a better understanding of the determinants of health and priority disease areas;
  • Topic 2 (SO2): integrate fragmented health research and innovation efforts bringing together health industry sectors and other stakeholders, focusing on unmet public health needs, to enable the development of tools, data, platforms, technologies and processes for improved prediction, prevention, interception, diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases, meeting the needs of end-users;
  • Topic 3 (SO3): demonstrate the feasibility of people-centered, integrated healthcare solutions;
  • Topic 4 (SO4): exploit the full potential of digitalisation and data exchange in healthcare; Topic 5 (SO5): enable the development of new and improved evaluation methodologies and models for a comprehensive assessment of the added value of innovative and integrated healthcare solutions.

Potential applicants are encouraged to sign up for the IHI Call Days for call 12, which will be held online on 19th -20th January and will cover the topics, IHI's rules and procedures, and the financial aspects of the proposal.

The IHI Brokerage Platform includes a networking module so that you can find potential partners for your consortium and message them. The platform will remain open for networking until the call deadline.
